Why Young and Old People Are Not Prepared For Future

A Future We Are Not Prepared For
  • Only 33% of technology jobs worldwide are filled by the necessary skilled labour.
  • The digital skills shortage is of huge concern to global business leaders.
  • A lack of exposure to digital tools and digital ambition, makes many young people ill-prepared for the jobs of the future.

Only 33% of technology jobs worldwide are filled by the necessary skilled labour. This is one of the biggest concerns of global business leaders. In a global survey conducted by Capgemini and LinkedIn, half of the organizations surveyed say that the digital divide is widening and 54% say they have lost competitive advantage due to talent shortages.

The World Economic Forum estimates that the world will create 150 million new technology jobs over the next five years and by 2030, 77% of jobs will require digital skills.

Preparing for the jobs of the future

The Global Opportunity Youth Network (GOYN) initiative analysed all the data and produced a comprehensive report on these vulnerabilities. This shows that of the post-pandemic youth population of nearly 11,447,212 million young people of working age in Colombia, out of every 100 young people who complete secondary education, 48 immediately access higher education, and of these, only 24 complete it.

These figures mean that, as a society, we are losing more than half of the potential of young people who, if they had access to the required opportunities today, could contribute to the social and economic development of the country.

This same GOYN analysis for the city of Bogota shows that, of the approximately 1,798,362 million young people of working age, 37% are excluded from these opportunities, representing about 671,244 thousand young people who see their welfare and quality of life limited. The percentage of young people with a disability is 72%, of ethnic groups is 47% and LGBTIQ+ is 41%.

Of the total number of youth with potential in the city, 52% are young women. When analysing the participation only of young people who do not study or work, however, this figure increases to 58%, showing that there are gender-based gaps to this problem. Even more serious, is the fact that 76% of young people with potential who are engaged in care work are women.

It is important to understand what the structural barriers are that widen the gap to be able to take action in this regard. These are the structural factors that limit access to opportunities:

A deficit in school competencies

We are not teaching all young people the same. According to the GOYN report, Some young people fail to finish their high school studies with competencies in basic subjects, such as mathematics, and they are also not learning English, and don’t have a significant level of reading comprehension. Additionally, there are no strong references in the environment of many young people who finish school, they need teachers and counsellors to show them what options they have for a good career.

Access to ICT

The average penetration of connectivity in households in developing countries is still low. Even when the COVID-19 pandemic forced us to improve, only 42% have internet connection and about 57% of young people do not have access to training opportunities, formal employment, computers and the internet. Without these tools, it is almost impossible to prepare them for the jobs of the future.

Although the majority of children and adults have access to smartphones, they are often not using them to their advantage. They are very connected to the content they consume on social networks, but they are not translating access to connection into access to valuable information.

Environmental factors

The life trajectories of young people also continue to be impacted by their surroundings and home life. In addition to there being a lack of support, validation and encouraging accompaniment, there is also a lack of role models.

There are efforts to remove some of the obstacles that young people face. Talento Joven, for example, is an accelerator for training and formal labour that is on a mission to strengthen the capabilities of young people and connect them with the job offers of the 4IR. This has already provided more than 10,000 young people in Bogota with a free boot camp and a series of face-to-face workshops on topics such as: how to build a good CV; how to present a good job interview; and, how to save to be financially intelligent.

The power to make decisions about your career after leaving school is conditioned by the level of information, guidance and accompaniment that students receive. The importance of socio-occupational orientation, therefore, is highlighted to provide information related to self-knowledge, training and employment opportunities in the city.

Preparing For The Inevitable: Ways To Secure Your Future

finances

Life is unpredictable. You never know when an emergency may arise, or you might be faced with a tough decision that will change your life. It’s important to prepare for the future and prepare for unforeseen events to protect what matters most: your life, family, and loved ones!

Some people prepare for everything, and that includes hiring an estate planning lawyer, someone who could make sure your final wishes will be followed when you pass away. There are a lot of ways that people can prepare for the future. It all depends on what people value most and what people would want to prioritize.

Why Preparing For The Future Matters

There is no telling what the future will bring for us. Many people fail to prepare for the unexpected, even if it is one of the most important things they should be thinking about. If you’re not prepared for when things go wrong, then you’ll likely find yourself in an unenviable position later on.

For example, if your car breaks down and you can’t afford to fix it immediately, then you might be forced to take public transportation instead. You could also lose valuable time waiting around for help from others who may not arrive until after the damage has already been done.

There are many ways to prepare ourselves in advance so that we’re ready when bad things happen unexpectedly, and we need help fast! Below are tips on how people can prepare for the future properly:

  • Always Plan Ahead

Planning will allow you to be prepared for any unexpected events, which can ultimately save your time and money in the long run. Individuals who have been through emergencies before will know that being unprepared is one of the worst things an individual could suffer.

For example, a lot of people did not anticipate the COVID-19 pandemic happening. Even though the pandemic hit the world unexpectedly, people who have been preparing for unexpected events like this were far better off than people who neglected to plan for disasters.

This means that individuals should always prepare themselves just in case any emergencies come up, whether it’s an economic crash or a pandemic outbreak. Both of these events are very real possibilities and can happen anytime! Therefore, people must be ready when bad things occur to know how to survive and thrive in the aftermath.

  • Never Discount The Fact That Bad Things Could Happen

A lot of people are overly optimistic, which leads them to think that nothing bad can happen. However, it’s always better to be ready for the worst-case scenario. This is why people should prepare themselves by ensuring they have everything they need to deal with any bad things that could happen, such as a calamity, a pandemic, or even losing your job.

  • Secure Your Finances

Securing one’s finances is one of the most important things to do. If you don’t have any money, then it’ll be hard for you to survive without help from others when calamities or emergencies strike. It’s even recommended that people set up an emergency fund to easily access the cash in case something really bad happens, like if they lose their jobs or are unable to work due to injury or sickness.

People should make an effort to save money to have something to fall back on just in case they face major setbacks. Therefore, people should start saving money. They could also invest their money on assets that will give them a good ROI down the line. This way, they’ll be able to gain capital over time which they can use for emergencies, retirement, or other investments.

  • Secure Your Health

People should also make sure that they plan for their health by having health insurance. They could also plan their finances to have enough money for healthcare costs, prescriptions, and hospital visits in the future.

Saving is always beneficial since it doesn’t require much effort to do on your part. You need to have the discipline to set aside enough money to put into a savings account so that you can gain interest over time.

  • Make Sure You Have Goals

You need to make sure that you have goals so that you know what to save up. It’s also important to have goals since it allows you to prioritize the most important things, which will allow you to get the most out of your money even if there are limited resources available. Therefore, people should set goals for themselves so that they can secure their futures.

Opinions on Preparing for Future

Is it possible to be too prepared for something?

Chris Carampot

It’s a common cognitive bias. We approach a situation, unaware we are actually seeing a projection of the situation. It’s an extension of our conscious.
The situation still exist on an objective level. We merely “see” through our senses.
Our brain creates a mental model, but before it can do that, it needs to render the raw info into a “script” our brains can comprehend. Our brains have to filter that information down to create those scripts. Script are stories in the narrative sense. They allow interpretation.
Evolution
It’s amazing for what it does —- enhancing our survival. Our brains pay more attention to info it deems salient. It discards the rest.
Therefore, we actually work with incomplete knowledge. Not the capital T truth.
We notice the factors our knowledge, experience, and culture deems valuable. The rest is erased.
Simply put, You can’t see what you can’t see. You can’t know what you don’t know. You can gain relevant knowledge and expertise, but you will never have full knowledge of either the phenomenon it it’s whole, nor the complete knowledge, wisdom, and insight of your field.
No doubt our knowledge grows. We gain new techniques and technologies that reveals new dimensions of our existence, our relationship with others, and the world. This leads to new truths and reveals flaws in previously ironclad laws.

Malcolm C Davidson, Author

How can one really prepare for the future? Yes, we can set up wills and trusts, so our loved ones will be okay, or so we think. I just go day to day. I am not super smart, not overly tech savvy, nor am I rich. I am cognizant that one day I will die, and trust me I really don’t want to, despite the world being so screwed up, that death might actually be paradise.

I don’t fret to much over the future, as I realize I really cannot control what will happen; I can only control how I react to whatever does happen. I take my vitamins, try to eat healthier than I did in the past, get some exercise, and get a good nights sleep. I don’t court danger, meaning I don’t hang out in bad parts of town till all hours of the day and night with nefarious people. I use what little common sense I have, and hopefully I shall be okay.

In the final analysis, I really can’t prepare for the future because who the heck knows what really can and will happen.

Philip Regenie, Founder and CEO (2014–present
A friend just told me I should list specific steps for a teen to take. The answer below the steps is philosophical.
Start immediately, at something, anything
Be dedicated and disciplined learning all you can
Look for understanding others don’t see
Copy the best
Find a mentor
Become the best at what you do
Do it with something else
Listen first to The riddle of experience vs. memory so that you can get a basis for how to live a happy life and have well being. No one knows what the future holds so preparing for a specific future may do you no good at all; it may never arrive. What this implies is that you cannot prepare yourself for the future but can prepare yourself for all futures. To do that, you can become the best you. In fact, I would argue that what you have to offer the world and what the world is most willing to exchange benefit to you for, is your uniqueness; that which defines you.
You have read the posts suggesting you find the jobs that are paying well in the future and train for them. Or you have read where you should get a good education and build yourself through a business. Perhaps, you should become a programmer and make a living making machines do what someone wants them to do.
I think, you should find what you love and what most expresses who you are, and dedicate yourself to being the very best of that so that we all benefit from something that can never happen again.

Keirsten Snover stated,
“throughout history (and pre-history), the people who have been successful long term have been able to adapt to changes in their environment”.
“In the past, humans had to adapt to things in their physical environment, like climate and changing sources of food. Now, we have great ways to adapt to things in our physical environment, so we don’t even think much about that kind of stuff anymore.
So now, we need to adapt to our social environment. People from other cultures are interacting with each other, and to be successful, one must be able to bridge cultural differences. The economy has become a global economy, and preparing for the future involves being successful at working with different cultures.
Another thing that we have to adapt to in order to successfully prepare for the future is with our work environment. Many jobs are being eliminated by computers or by outsourcing to other countries. Successfully preparing for the future means always learning new skills so that as the work environment changes, you can change with it.
So, I would say people who are adapting to any changes in their environment whether its the physical environment, social environment, or work environment, are successfully preparing for the future”.

THINKING AHEAD MATTERS

It never hurts to prepare for the future because it gives people peace of mind knowing that they’re doing everything in their power to protect their futures. This is true even if there are unexpected events that happen which change the future. People who are prepared will find that they can always do something to help them have peace of mind because they know they did what they could to prepare for the future.
